Winnipeg, Dec. 31 – Following are a few highlights in the
Canadian and world pulse markets on Thursday, December 31.
– A new report from the Eastern Africa Grain Council says more awareness needs to be created on how to manage pests and create standards for Tanzania’s pulse crop industry. The report says exports of pigeon peas, chickpeas and dry peas could be expanded if the proper measures were put into place, because of the growing demand in Southeast Asia.
– General Mills is marketing a new snack composed of roasted broad beans coated in chickpea flour. According to a report in Marketplace.org, the snacks were handed out to customers in a Twin Cities grocery store.
– The Indian government is taking steps to manage the country’s burgeoning demand for pulse crops. The country’s Commerce Ministry has been tasked with preparing some advanced estimates for pulse imports to give to private traders, according to reports out of the country. The estimates are expected to give traders assistance in sourcing pulses from different countries.
