Pulses: India launches inquiry into surging pulse prices

– The Competition Commission of India has launched an inquiry into the alleged anti-competitive practices behind the surging prices of pulses, according to reports. The panel will study the market forces controlling prices of pulses and get to know the structure of the market.

– The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president in Pakistan is expressing concerns about hundreds of containers of pulses being held up at the Karachi Ports, according to reports. The delay, due to the containers being marked for examination, has caused business losses and could add to the shortage, which would further increase pulse prices in the local market.

– Lentil prices have remained steady across Western Canada, with top prices for all qualities of laird lentils ranging from 55 cents to 70 cents per pound, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire.

– Top pea prices remained steady in Western Canada, with green peas settling at C$9.75 per bushel and yellow peas sitting at C$8.90 per bushel.
