Winnipeg, June 2 – Commercial pea stocks fell in Canada
during the week ended May 28. Data from the Canadian Grain
Commission shows that peas fell 139,600 tonnes, compared to
149,900 tonnes the week before. Exports were significantly
during the week ended May 28, compared to the week before.
Canada exported 38,600 tonnes of peas compared to 25,500 the
week previous.
A new survey indicates Americans may be willing to add more
pulses to their diet. Conducted by the California Walnut Board,
the survey finds that 83 per cent of Americans are agreeable to
making meatless dishes as long as they have tasty alternatives.
Lentils, beans and peas were some of the top foods they were
willing to try in meatless meals.
Bids for kabuli chickpeas across Western Canada are holding
steady. Prices for both commodities are now listed at 69 to 70
cents a pound.
Yellow peas on the Prairies rose 15 cents last week and are
now in a range of C$7.80 to C$8.50 per bushel.
