Winnipeg, Jan. 8 – Following are a few highlights in the
Canadian and world pulse markets on Friday, January 8.
– Lentil production in Saskatchewan could hit 2,372,900 tonnes in 2015/16. That estimate comes from the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers in a recent report. According to the group, farmers are expected to seed record areas of lentils,
peas, and faba beans and possibly plant more dry edible beans, but seed fewer chickpeas.
– The Saskatchewan Pulse Growers say pea acreage in 2016/17 could hit 4.2 million acres across Canada. The total amount seeded in 2015/16 was 3.7 million acres. The group says demand from India is expected to be strong in the early portion of that time-frame with China helping pick up any slumps that could happen in 2017.

– Fire-fighters in Western Australia are gearing up for another busy weekend as temperatures are expected to soar above 33 degrees Celsius on Saturday with thunderstorms. – Large #1 green lentils in Western Canada are going for about 65-71 cents per pound, as of January 8, Prairie Ag Hotwire said.
