July 4 (CNS Canada) – Alberta’s latest crop report shows dry peas, dry beans and lentils are developing as normal for this time of year.
For crops assessed on June 27, dry peas showed 81.1 per cent were rated good to excellent. Dry beans showed 91 per cent at good to excellent and 83.8 per cent of lentils were rated as good to excellent.
Alberta Agriculture and Forestry reported that in the northwest of the province, 38 per cent of field peas were in the pre-flowering stage with one per cent flowering. That compares to a long-term average of 63 per cent pre-flowering and eight per cent flowering. In the Peace district, 30 per cent of field peas were in the pre-flowering stage with five per cent flowering compared to long-term averages of 90 per cent with seven per cent flowering.

Canada shipped 29,600 tonnes of peas last week as of June 25. Alberta’s Crop Market Review reported that brings the year-to-date total to 3.31 million tonnes, an increase of 41.9 per cent during the same period a year ago. Shipments at this point in the shipping season last year were at 2.33 million tonnes.
