Global markets: US jobless claims move up

WINNIPEG, December 1 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.

– US jobless claims in the week ending November 26 gained 17,000 to a seasonally adjusted 268,000, according to reports out of the country on Thursday.

That level is the highest seen since June, but analysts says the country’s labour force is still strong.

– Capital expenditures for the oil and gas extraction industries totalled C$9.3 billion in the third quarter, down 29.8 per cent from the third quarter of 2015, Statistics Canada said in a report on Thursday.
