Global Markets: U.S. Senate passes Ukraine aid bill

  • The United States Senate passed a US$95.3 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan on Tuesday, with 22 Republicans joining Democrats to move the legislation forward by a vote of 70 to 29. The measure now goes to the Republican-led House of Representatives.

 

  • Police fired tear gas at protesting farmers in India on Tuesday, according to reports. The farmers are marching towards New Delhi to pressure the government to honour a 2021 promise to pay more for crops. Farmers are an influential voting bloc in India, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi facing re-election later this year.

 

  • Hamas and Israel are reportedly making progress towards a cease-fire and hostage release deal with talks underway in Egypt.
