- United States Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin announced on Friday that U.S. military jets struck two facilities in Syria being used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The targeted facilities were said to be housing weapons and munitions for the IRGC. Austin said there have been nearly 20 attacks against U.S. and allied troops in Iraq and Syria over the past week that were instigated by the IRGC.

- The United Nations stressed on Friday that the situation in Gaza is becoming more dire with only a few aid convoys being allowed into the Palestinian territory. Negotiations brokered by Qatar for a prisoner exchange and a ceasefire are reported to be making progress. As well, Israeli ground forces launched a second overnight raid into Gaza as they prepared for their main assault into the enclave.
- A report on Friday stated that grain shipments through the St. Lawrence Seaway were being delayed due to the strike by 360 unionized workers. Gunter Jochum, president of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association, told the Winnipeg Free Press that grain shipments were caught up in the backlog. The strike is in its sixth day as talks between Unifor and the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation were at a standstill.
- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Thursday that rural homes using heating oil will be exempt from the carbon tax for three years. As well, the federal government will double the rural supplement and offer new programs to assist rural homeowners to switch to heat pumps.
