Global Markets: Prigozhin believed to be dead

WINNIPEG – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Yevgeny Prigozhin, the Wagner Group mercenary leader who led a brief armed rebellion against Russian President Vladimir Putin two months ago, is believed to be dead after the plane he was on crashed north of Moscow on Thursday. The crash claimed the lives all 10 people on board. The Russian government also confirmed that Prigozhin’s deputy Dmitry Utkin was also on board. Charges against Prigozhin after the rebellion were dropped against him and was allowed to retreat to Belarus, returning to Russia on occasion.

– Eight Republican presidential candidates, not including frontrunner former United States president Donald Trump, took part in a televised debate in Milwaukee on Thursday night.
