Global Markets: Israel seizes Rafah border crossing

  • Israel has seized control of the Rafah border crossing in southern Gaza, escalating tensions in the region mere hours after Hamas reportedly accepted a ceasefire proposal mediated by Egypt and Qatar. Israel said the deal did not meet its demands.

 

  • Ukraine’s state security service claims to have captured two Russian agents plotting the assassination of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Meanwhile, Russian authorities announced that they had detained two United States nationals, including a U.S. soldier, in separate criminal cases. The charges reportedly had no political link and were not tied to espionage.

 

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin was inaugurated into his fifth term on Tuesday in a ceremony at the Kremlin. After being sworn in, Putin vowed to defend the country stating, “We are a united and great people and together we will overcome all obstacles, realize all our plans, together we will win.”
