– Wildfires continue to burn in the Northwest Territories with approximately 68 per cent of the territory’s residents already evacuated. While light rainfall and winds helped prevent the spread, warmer than normal temperatures are expected for Tuesday in some areas. The South Slave region, which includes Hay River and Fort Smith, will have a high to extreme fire danger forecast for Tuesday. As of late Monday evening, a wildfire 15 kilometres northwest of Yellowknife hasn’t advanced since the weekend. As winds threaten to push the fire south and east, 300 personnel, including those from the Canadian Armed Forces, have been assigned to defend the capital from the fire.

– Former United States president Donald Trump said on social media he plans on turning himself in and be processed in Atlanta on Thursday in connection with the indictment against him by the state of Georgia. Trump and 18 other defendants were charged with a total of 41 criminal counts in connection with allegedly trying to overturn the former president’s loss in the 2020 election in the state. Trump maintains that the charges against him were politically motivated and designed to derail his presidential campaign.
– The BRICS summit gets underway in Johannesburg, South Africa on Tuesday, which will include representatives from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The group was designed to counter U.S. influence in world affairs. Russian president Vladimir Putin will not attend the summit in person, due to an International Criminal Court arrest warrant in South Africa, but foreign minister Sergei Lavrov will attend.
