- A proposed ceasefire between Hamas and Israel has been delayed at least until Friday, as fighting continued in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza. The Israeli military reported that it had launched 300 airstrikes in the past day. The four-day truce after seven weeks of fighting was expected to include the release of at least 50 Israeli hostages in exchange for at least 150 Palestinian detainees in Israel.

- A vehicle crash and explosion on the Rainbow Bridge border crossing between New York and Ontario left two people dead on Wednesday, but an FBI investigation has shown no signs of terrorist activity, according to New York Governor Kathy Hochul. The bridge remains closed on Thursday, but other nearby border crossings have reopened. The incident happened on the United States side of the border, and New York’s Niagara Falls Police Department will continue to investigate.
- Surprising pre-election polls, the far-right, anti-European Union Freedom Party (PVV) won the most seats in the Netherlands parliamentary elections, with party leader Geert Wilders set to become the Prime Minister of a coalition government. With nearly all the votes counted, the PVV won an estimated 37 of the 150 seats of the country’s lower house of parliament. The Labour/Greens won 25 seats, followed by outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s conservative Peoples Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) with 24 seats.
