Global Markets: Dow breaks 40,000

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed about 40,000 points for the first time ever on Thursday, underpinned by improving economic confidence in the United States and a strong earnings season.

 

  • Trucks began moving humanitarian aid supplies through a temporary pier off the Gaza coast on Friday. The pier was built by the U.S. military, with the aid shipments donated by several countries and organizations.

 

  • Canadian investors acquired a record C$35.6 billion of foreign securities in March while foreign investors added C$14.4 billion of Canadian securities during the month, according to a report from Statistics Canada. As a result, there was a net outflow of C$21.2 billion from the Canadian economy.
