Global Markets: Canadian Feds mark day to honour Queen Elizabeth

– Canada’s federal government announced that Monday, Sept. 19 will be a federal holiday for government employees in honour of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. The Atlantic provinces and British Columbia announced similar holidays, with government and schools closed for the day. However, Ontario, Quebec and the Prairie provinces will not have official statutory holidays, except for some government workers, but will mark the date to commemorate the Queen.

– Canadian manufacturing sales were down by 0.9 per cent in July at C$71.6 billion, according to a report from Statistics Canada. Sales were lower in 12 of 21 industries, marking the third consecutive overall monthly decline.

– Typhoon Muifa hit islands off China’s east coast and is on track to reach Shanghai, where heavy rains were already falling. Flights have been cancelled and fishing boats returned to harbour.
