– All truckers, including Canadian truckers, must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 when crossing the Canada/United States border, the federal government clarified on Friday. A spokesperson for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) errored when they said on Wednesday that Canadian truckers would be exempt from the government’s mandate that comes into effect on Saturday. Reports estimated that approximately 12,000 Canadian truckers have yet to be vaccinated, which could lead to additional supply issues.

– The International Energy Agency (IEA) warned the Canadian oil industry that it must do more to protect Canada’s status as a major global oil power. On Thursday, the IEA acknowledged Canada’s efforts to cut emissions, but stated the country “should pay close attention to shifting demand for oil and gas globally.” The agency stressed the necessity to actually achieve zero emissions by 2050 and that carbon capture for the Canadian oil sands was essential.
– North Korea is said to have stolen almost US$400 million in crypto-currencies last year, according to Chainalysis, a digital asset consultancy. Chainalysis said North Korean hackers used phishing lures, code exploits, malware and other techniques to illegally obtain funds from numerous organizations in 2021. The consultancy alleged that the Lazarus Group, believed to be operated by North Korea’s Reconnaissance General Bureau, was behind many of the scams and attacks.
