Winnipeg – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian
and world feed grain markets on Thursday, December 31.
– Corn futures at the Chicago Board of Trade were down close to one US cent per bushel in early activity on Thursday.
– Corn futures were pressured by an export report released by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) which showed corn sales lagging at 705,200 metric tonnes. That figure is down 12 per cent from the previous week and three per cent from the prior four-week average.
– Wheat sales for the week ended December 24 totalled 363,500 metric tonnes. The supplies are for delivery in the marketing year 2015/2016, and were down two per cent from the previous week, but up 11 per cent from the prior four-week average, according to the USDA.
– The US Midwest is seeing flooding, which could kill winter wheat crops in the region if the water is left standing.
