Feed Grains: UK Winter Wheat, Spring Barley crops improve

By Commodity News Service Canada

WINNIPEG, August 15 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Monday, August 15.

– Winter wheat and spring barley crops across the UK are improving with much needed sunshine, according to reports. Growers so far are finding grain quality is meeting milling and malting specification.

– Excessive rain is still delaying haying operations across the Canadian prairies, according to reports. Hay is also losing feed quality, either by being cut and then rained on, or through crops being left on too long and maturing.

– Despite heading for a bumper wheat harvest, Russian wheat quality looks worse-than-average, leaving farmers reluctant to sell, according to reports.

– Feed barley in Saskatchewan and Manitoba dropped five to 10 cents with top prices settling at C$2.74 and C$2.60 per bushel, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire. Alberta top feed barley prices remained steady at C$4.18 per bushel.
