Feed Grains: UK wheat crop estimate rises

WINNIPEG, May. 16 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Monday, May 16.

– CBOT corn futures finished 1-3 cents higher on Monday, with the July contract at US$3.9400 per bushel. The market was boosted by strong demand for exports.

– Informa Economics lowered its estimate for the corn crop to 93.4 million acres, which is down 225,000 acres from the USDA’s estimate.

– The 2016 wheat crop estimate for the United Kingdom has been pegged at 21.5 million tonnes by UKrAgroConsult. That is up 1.7 million tonnes from the previous estimate.

– The USDA says 128,000 tonnes of corn have been earmarked for sale to South Korea.

– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$216.50 to C$218 per tonne range as of May 13, which was up slightly from the week before, according to provincial reports. Feed wheat prices were in the C$235 to C$237 range, which were one to three dollars more than the week before.
