Feed Grains: UK cereal production down on year

WINNIPEG, Oct. 14 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Friday, October 14.

– CBOT corn futures settled higher on Friday, with speculative short-covering ahead of the weekend behind some of the strength. The December contract was up 4.75 cents at US$3.5425 per bushel.

– Weekly US export sales for delivery during the current crop year came in at 873,400 tonnes, according to the USDA. While the business was in line with expectations, it was well off the previous week’s level.

– Total cereal production in the United Kingdom is estimated at 22.1 million tonnes by the country’s agriculture department, Defra. That would be down by 11 per cent from the previous year.

– Canadian farmers delivered 42,200 tonnes of barley into the commercial pipeline during the week ended October 9, according to the latest Canadian Grain Commission data. Total commercial stocks rose to 224,400 tonnes, from 211,300 tonnes the previous week.

– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$147 to C$165 per tonne range as of October 7, which were unchanged from the previous week, according to the latest pricing information from the provincial government. Feed wheat prices were down by about five dollars on average, to range from C$170 to C$185 in Lethbridge.
