WINNIPEG, May 1 – The Canadian dollar ended weaker against the US dollar Friday, seeing some profit taking on recent gains and ahead of the weekend, analysts said.
The Canadian dollar closed at US$0.8226 or US$1=C$1.2157 on Friday, which compares with Thursday’s North American settlement of US$0.8289 or US$1=C$1.2064.
Broad strength in the US dollar, as economic news out of the country was mostly positive throughout the week, was adding to the bearish tone.
Further spillover pressure came from the declines seen in commodity prices, including crude oil and gold, according to traders.
Canadian bonds ended lower on Friday, following the US Treasury market, brokers said.
The two-year bond yielded 0.713% Friday, from late 0.678% Thursday. The 10-year bond yield was at 1.664%, from 1.583%. Bond yields fall as their prices rise.
