Canadian forex review: C$ closes nearly unchanged

By Commodity News Service Canada

WINNIPEG, April 21 – The Canadian dollar was nearly unchanged against the US dollar on Monday, as a lack of fresh market moving news kept the currency in a narrow trading range, analysts said.

The Canadian dollar closed at US$0.9079 or US$1=C$1.1015 on Monday, which compares with Thursday’s North American settlement of US$0.9080 or US$1=C$1.1013. The market was closed for Good Friday on Friday.

Some downward pressure came from spillover selling from the losses seen in commodity prices, including crude oil, gold and copper.

Canadian bonds also ended little changed amid a lack of fresh market moving news on Monday, brokers said, adding that quiet holiday trade kept the market from seeing much movement.

The two-year bond yielded 1.074% late Monday, from 1.076% late Thursday. The 10-year bond yielded 2.449%, from 2.454%. Bond yields fall as their prices rise.
