Canadian Financial Close: TSX Drops, C$ Hits 11-Year Low

WINNIPEG, December 17 – The Canadian dollar ended lower relative to its US counterpart on Thursday, as tumbling equity stocks and losses in gold dragged down the loonie. The Canadian dollar hit a new 11-year low.

The Canadian dollar closed at US$0.7168 or US$1 = C$1.3950.

The TSX dropped Thursday following weakness in the gold sector. Barrick Gold led the way falling 8%.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index fell 156.15 points, or 1.19%, to 13,009.08.

Buhler Industries————– $ 0.00 at $ 5.44
Maple Leaf Foods————-dn $ 0.04 at $ 22.80
