WINNIPEG, October 14 – The Canadian dollar chalked up gains
against its US counterpart to end the week. The loonie displayed
independent strength as both the euro and yen suffered losses.
The Canadian dollar closed at C$0.7607 or US$1.3145,
compared to Thursday’s close of C$0.7573 or US$1=C$1.3205.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index finished weaker on Friday, as
losses in mining and energy pointed the way lower.
Gold issues were particularly bearish, as Kinross declined
4.4% while Goldcorp fell 3%.
Crude oil also dropped along with copper, silver and
natural gas.
The index fell 58.72 points, or 0.4%, to close at
14,584.99.
