Canadian Financial Close: TSX and loonie end higher

WINNIPEG, January 29 – The Canadian dollar continued to climb against its US counterpart Friday. Gains in crude oil and gold led the way forward.

The Canadian dollar closed at US$0.7140 or US$1 = C$1.4006.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 230.20 points, or 1.83%, to 12,822.13.

Canada’s agricultural sector performed as follows:
AGT Food and Ingredients—–up $ 0.55 at $ 35.12
Agrium Incorporated———-up $ 1.63 at $122.32
Buhler Industries————– $ 0.00 at $ 5.00
Maple Leaf Foods————-up $ 0.12 at $ 22.82
Potash Corp. of Sask———up $ 0.28 at $ 22.84
