Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Crude oil jumps, TSX reaches new levels

Glacier FarmMedia MarketsFarm – The Canadian dollar moved very little on Friday morning.

The loonie was at US$0.7342 or US$1=C$1.3620 as of 8:36 a.m. CDT, compared to US$0.7340 or US$1=C$1.3624 on Thursday. The United States Dollar Index declined 0.26 of a point at 104.18.

Crude oil prices were higher on signs of increased demand and speculation over interest rate cuts. Brent crude oil advanced US$0.69 at US$86.09 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) jumped US$1.03 at US$83.65/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index gained 81.09 points at 22,625.22 after closing at an all-time high on Thursday.

Gold lost US$15.10 per ounce at US$2,406.80.
