Winnipeg, December 29 – The Canadian dollar was slightly higher compared to its US counterpart Thursday morning, but still hovering near its lowest point in 11 months.
Cold temperatures have helped bolster natural gas prices, which was supportive for the loonie.
At 8:52 CST Thursday morning the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7386 or C$1.3539 which compares with Wednesday’s North American close of US$0.7377 or C$1.3555.
At 8:52 CST Thursday morning, the TSX was up 22.54 points, or 0.15%, at 15,383.64.
Gains in gold supported the mining sector while most equity markets were locked in thin trade due to the holiday season.
