Canadian Dollar And Business Outlook

By Commodity News Service Canada

WINNIPEG, May 6 The Canadian dollar eased against its US counterpart at 9:09 CDT Monday, amid light trade as markets in Europe and Asia were closed for holidays.

At 9:09 CDT Monday, the Canadian dollar was at US$0.9911 or US$=C$1.0090, which compares with Friday’s North American close of US$0.9923 or US$=C$1.0078.

Some of the weakness was linked to spill over pressure from the losses seen in crude oil and other commodities, analysts said.

However, strong Canadian building permits data limited the losses. According to Statistics Canada, building permits in Canada were worth C$6.5 billion in March, an increase of 8.6% from February.

The TSX was up 30.84 points, or 0.25%, at 9:09 CDT Monday morning to sit at 12,468.87.
