Canadian dollar and business outlook

WINNIPEG, February 11 The Canadian dollar weakened against its US counterpart on Thursday as crude oil futures fell.

At 8:40 a.m. CST the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7160 or C$1.3966 which compares with Wednesday’s North American close of US$0.7177, or C$1.3933.

At 8:40 a.m., New York Mercantile crude oil futures had shed US$0.78 to sit at US$26.67 a barrel.

In Canadian domestic data, there were 401,000 job vacancies in Canada in the third quarter and the job vacancy rate was 2.6 per cent, Statistics Canada said in a report on Thursday.

The TSX was weaker in early activity, down 128.5 points at 8:40 a.m. CST to sit at 12,057.19.
