Canadian dollar and business outlook

Glacier FarmMedia — The Canadian dollar was holding steady Thursday morning, with currency traders awaiting comments from Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem later in the day.

     At 9:08 a.m. CDT the Canadian dollar was trading at US$0.7119 or US$1=C$1.4047 which compares with Wednesday’s close of US$0.7120 or US$1=C$1.4045.

     Macklem is set to provide an economic outlook this afternoon, and investors will be watching to see if he provides any hint on interest rate cuts ahead of the BoC’s Oct. 29 policy meeting.

     Crude oil holding relatively steady, with West Texas Intermediate up by 0.12 per cent at US$57.91 per barrel.

     The TSX was firm, gaining 24.18 points at 9:08 CDT to trade at 30,661.30.
