Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was not available April 18 and April 11.

U.S. hogs averaged $83.35 on a carcass basis on April 18, up from $83.10 April 11.

The U.S. pork cutout was $97.00 per hundredweight April 18, down from 91.96 April 11.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to April 18 was 2.344 million. It was 2.429 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.416 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the April 19 Signature Four price was $210.94 per 100 kilograms, down from $220.29.

The April 19 Hams Marketing cash price was $208.94, while on April 12 it was $218.29. HyLife was $223.78 this week and $233.13 April 12. OlyWest was $219.80, down from $226.80 last week.

OlyWest 2021 was down, at $227.50, from $235.20, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $223.78 this week. On April 12 it was $233.13.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices of $635-$695 per cwt., hot hanging weight, for finished bulls and $600-$650 per cwt. for finished heifers. Mature bulls were $500-$550, while mature cows were $500-$550 per cwt.

Carcass prices for bison sold into the United States were US$480-$495 per cwt. for bulls and $450-$470 per cwt. for heifers.

Prices for mature bulls and cows were not available.

All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were $5.95 per pound for bulls and $4.69 per lb. for heifers of good quality or better.

The mixed live animal price was not available.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 210 sheep and 1,289 lambs sold April 14.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,435 sheep and 181 goats sold April 14.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $420-$530 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $390-$490, 70-85 lb. were $370-$455, 86-105 lb. were $325-$416, and 106 lb. and heavier were $280-$360. Wool rams were $175-$260 per cwt. Cull ewes were $130-$340.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $360-$510, 55-69 lb. were $360-$465, 70-85 lb. were $340-$420, 86-105 lb. were $325-$390 and 106 lb. and heavier were $270-$340. Hair rams were $175-$260 per cwt. Cull ewes were $170-$370.
