HOGS LITTLE CHANGED
Cash pork bellies hit a record $160 per hundredweight on tight supply and more fast food restaurants using bacon on burgers and sandwiches.
For example, Subway has introduced a breakfast menu with bacon items.
Iowa-southern Minnesota cash hogs delivered to plants were steady at $61 US per cwt. Sept. 17, the same as Sept 10.
The U.S. pork carcass cut-out value rose to $91.81 Sept. 16 and settled at $91.14 Sept. 17, up from $89.85 Sept. 10.
U.S. federal slaughter rose to 2.16 million, down 6.4 percent from the same week last year.

BISON STEADY
The Canadian Bison Association said tight supply of finished animals kept prices high.
Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range were $3-$3.10 per pound hot hanging weight.
Grade A heifers in the desirable weight range were steady at $2.85-$3.
Older than 30 month animals and those outside the desirable weight range may be discounted.
Slaughter cows and bulls were $2-$2.20.
LAMBS STEADY
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported 1,317 sheep and 168 goats traded Sept 13.
Lambs were steady and light feeders a little stronger. Cull ewes and rams were down $10 per cwt.
Lambs lighter than 70 lb. were $140-$176 per cwt. Lambs 70 to 85 lb. were $120-$167, 86 to 105 lb. were $122-$145, and those heavier than 105 lb. were $122-$141.
Rams were $60-$75 per cwt. Cull ewes were $47-$66.
Good kid goats heavier than 50 lb. were $120-$205 per cwt. Nannies were $60-$78 per cwt. Mature billies were $100-$140.
At the Sept. 14 sale at Olds Auction at Olds, Alta., feeder lambs were $60- $130 per head. Ewes were $50-$130. Nannies were $60-$110 and billies were $140-$185.
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,767 sheep and lambs and 96 goats traded Sept. 13. Well finished lambs sold steady with thinner grass types under pressure at lower prices. Well finished sheep sold barely steady. Thinner and lean types fell $5-$10 cwt. Goats were steady.
