With Memorial Day retail needs met, hog prices fell.Iowa-southern Minnesota cash hogs delivered to plants were $61 US per hundredweight May 21, down from $64 on May 14.The U.S. pork cut-out value fell to $87.53 May 21 from $91.81 on May 14.U.S. federal slaughter to May 22 was estimated at 2.02 million, up from 1.95 million the previous week.The Canadian Bison Association said grade A youthful bulls younger than 30 months in the desirable weight range were $2.50–$2.65 Cdn per pound hot hanging weight.Grade A youthful heifers younger than 30 months were $2.40 – $2.50.Slaughter cows and bulls were $1.60 hot hanging weight.Ontario Stockyards on May 17 sold 1,414 sheep and lambs and 144 goats. Light lambs sold barely steady. Heavy lambs and goats were steady. Sheep were $3–$5 per cwt. higher.Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported 749 sheep and 165 goats traded May 10.Lambs lighter than 70 lb. were $162–$210 per cwt. Lambs 70 to 85 lb. were $155–$198, 86 to 105 lb. were $170–$195, and those heavier than 105 lb. were $160– $181.Rams were $55–$78 per cwt. Cull ewes were $60–$80. Bred ewes were $200– $290.
