U.S. packers trimmed back slaughter and did not need as many hogs for this week, which was shortened by Memorial Day.Pork sales have slowed.Iowa-southern Minnesota cash hogs delivered to plants were $58 US per hundredweight May 28, down from $61 May 21.The U.S. pork carcass cut-out value fell to $86.85 May 28, down from $87.53 May 21.U.S. federal slaughter to May 29 was estimated at 1.92 million, down from two million the previous week.The Canadian Bison Association said prices were unchanged.Grade A youthful bulls younger than 30 months in the desirable weight range were $2.50 to $2.65 per lb. hot hanging weight.Grade A youthful heifers younger than 30 months in the desirable weight range were $2.40 to $2.50.Carcasses outside the desired weight ranges were discounted by up to 15 cents per lb.Slaughter cows and bulls were $1.60 hot hanging weight.Ontario Stockyards on May 24 sold 1,040 sheep and lambs and 54 goats. Light lamb prices were a little lower. All other classes of lambs, sheep and goats were steady.Olds Auction in Olds, Alta., reported its May 25 sale saw feeder lambs at $120-$170 per cwt. Ewes were $85-$140, nannies $110-$150 and billies $130-$170.
