HOGS RISE

U.S. hog prices rose as packer demand improved and hot and humid weather trimmed hog weights.

Iowa-southern Minnesota cash hogs delivered to plants edged higher to $68-68.50 US per hundredweight June 10, up from $67.

The U.S. pork carcass cut-out value rose to $90.33 June 10 from $89.77 June 3.

The U.S. federal slaughter estimate was two million, up from 1.746 million the previous week.

BISON MOSTLY STEADY

The Canadian Bison Association said the bottom of the price range weakened slightly, but the market remains strong and supply is tight. Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range were $3.85-$4.10 per pound hot hanging weight.

Grade A heifers were $3.75-$4.

Animals older than 30 months and those outside the desirable weight range may be discounted.

Slaughter cows and bulls averaged $2.75.

LAMB PRICES FALL

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 1,665 sheep and lambs and 91 goats traded June 6. All classes of lambs sold $10 to $15 per cwt. lower. Sheep were almost steady and goats steady.
