Pork demand for barbecues has has fallen off following the July holidays. Also, slaughter plants were closed for the holiday, reducing demand for hogs.Iowa-southern Minnesota cash hogs delivered to plants were $57 US per hundredweight July 2, down from $60 per cwt. June 25.The U.S. pork carcass cut-out value was $82.42 July 2, down from $84.26 June 25.U.S. federal slaughter to June 26 was estimated at 1.97 million, up from 1.96 million the previous week.The Canadian Bison Association said supplies are tightening with potential upward pressure on prices. Middle cuts are moving well but frozen inventory increased slightly.Grade A youthful bulls younger than 30 months in the desirable weight range were $2.55 to $2.85 per lb. hot hanging weight.Grade A youthful heifers younger than 30 months were $2.40 to $2.70.Slaughter cows and bulls were $1.65 to $1.75 hot hanging weight.Ontario Stockyard reported that 1,439 sheep and lambs and 79 goats traded June 28.All classes of lambs sold at prices $5 to $7 Cdn per cwt. lower. Sheep traded $5 to $10 higher. Goats were steady.
