CASH HOGS EDGE HIGHER
Hog futures rose because traders believe livestock producers are unlikely to build herds when corn prices are rising.
U.S. cash hogs were supported by winter snowstorms that impeded deliveries to slaughter plants.
Slaughter plants posted stronger profit margins.
Iowa-southern Minnesota cash hogs delivered to plants rose to $54 US per hundredweight Jan. 14 from $52 Jan. 7.
The U.S. pork carcass cut-out value was $85.14 Jan. 14, up from $78.55 Jan. 7.
The U.S. federal slaughter estimate was 2.135 million head, down from 2.189 million the previous week.

BISON CLIMB HIGHER
The Canadian Bison Association said concerns are increasing that rising prices will start to kill demand.
Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range were $3.25-$3.65 US per pound hot hanging weight. Grade A heifers were $3.25-$3.55.
Animals older than 30 months and those outside the desirable weight range may be discounted.
Slaughter cows and bulls were $2.50.
LIGHT LAMBS STRONGER
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield Alta., reported 759 sheep and 89 goats sold Jan. 10.
Wool lambs lighter than 70 lb. were $197.50-$218 per cwt., 70-85 lb. were $188-$204, 86-105 lb. were $175- $189, and 106 lb. and heavier were $168-$180.
Wool rams were $95-$110 per cwt. Cull ewes were $87.50-$100 and bred ewes were $125-$174.
Hair lambs lighter than 70 lb. were $182-$200 per cwt., 70-85 lb. were $178-$190, 86-105 lb. were $165- $179 and 106 lb. and heavier were $150-$160.
Hair rams were $95-$110 per cwt. Cull ewes were $95-$110.
Good kid goats lighter than 50 lb. were $132.50-$160. Those heavier than 50 lb. were $140-$175 per cwt. Nannies were $78-$96 per cwt. Billies were $102.50-$127.50.
Ontario Stockyards reported 469 sheep and lambs and 59 goats traded Jan. 10. In light trade, sheep were up $10-$15 per cwt., lambs $10-$20 higher and goats $5-$10 higher.
