The U.S. blizzard closed several slaughter plants.
This backed up deliveries, but slaughter plants were expected to ramp up production this week encouraged by strong export demand.
Futures drifted back from the previous week’s records but remain well supported by tight supply of hogs and cattle and good export demand.
Iowa-southern Minnesota cash hogs delivered to plants rose to $60-$61 US per hundredweight Feb. 4 from $58 Jan. 28.
The U.S. pork carcass cut-out value was $89.17 Feb. 4, up from $88.57 Jan. 28.
U.S. federal slaughter estimate was 2.058 million head, down from 2.179 million the previous week.
The Canadian Bison Association said tight supply and light weights drove prices higher.
Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range were $3.50-$3.75 per pound hot hanging weight. Grade A heifers were $3.30-$3.65.
Animals older than 30 months and those outside the desirable weight range may be discounted.
Slaughter cows and bulls were $2.50.
Ontario Stockyard reported 1,654 sheep and lambs and 82 goats traded Jan. 31.
Lambs were $5-$10 per cwt. lower. Good sheep were steady, but fat and thinner types were $5-$10 cwt. lower. Goats sold steady.
