HOG SUPPLY IMPROVES
Cash hog prices in the U.S. fell as supply began to increase seasonally and cooler weather allowed better weight gain.
After Labour Day needs are met, prices will likely fall further.
However, strong pork exports will keep a floor under prices.
Iowa-southern Minnesota cash hogs delivered to plants were $74.50 US per hundredweight Aug. 19, down from $78 Aug. 12.
Cash U.S. pork carcass cutout value closed at $107.66, down from $109.85 Aug. 12.
The U.S. federal slaughter estimate was 2.05 million, up from 2.03 million the week before. U.S. slaughter so far this year is down 0.6 percent.

BISON SUPPLY TIGHT
The Canadian Bison Association, in its monthly report, said demand for all cuts is strong with some marketers reporting little or no inventory.
The supply of finished animals remains tight, keeping prices high.
This is generating pushback from domestic and export markets, but consumer demand remains strong with increased calls on where bison products can be purchased or where live animals can be accessed.
Federal slaughter to the end of June at 6,043 head was down 43 percent from the same period last year.
Live bison exports to the end of June to the U.S. at 9,943 were down by 30 percent.
LIGHT LAMBS STEADY
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported 871 sheep and 197 goats sold Aug. 15.
Wool lambs lighter than 70 pounds were $179-$197 per cwt., 70 to 85 lb. were $170-$192, 86 to 105 lb. were $170-$186 and 106 lb. and heavier were $165-$180.
Wool rams were $70-$80 per cwt. Cull ewes were $67-$76.
Hair lambs lighter than 70 lb. were $179-$192 per cwt., 70 to 85 lb. were $167-$182, 86 to 105 lb. were $155- $180 and 106 lb. and heavier were $155-$174.
Hair rams were $77-$95 per cwt. Cull ewes were $70-$80.
Good kid goats lighter than 50 lb. were $190-$260. Those heavier than 50 lb. were $200-$267.50 per cwt. Nannies were $60-$79 per cwt. Billies were $130-$167.50.
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 2,086 sheep and lambs and 113 goats traded Aug. 15.
Lightweight well-finished lambs sold steady.
Heavier types sold barely steady to $7 cwt. lower. Sheep and goats sold steady.
