The United States Department of Agriculture last week raised its U.S. pork export estimates for this year by 3.3 percent, and for next year, up 2.8 percent. Iowa-southern Minnesota cash hogs delivered to plants were $60 US per hundredweight Aug 13, steady with Aug. 6. The U.S. pork carcass cutout value was $89.98 on Aug. 13 sown from $90.05 on Aug. 6.
U.S. federal slaughter to Aug. 14 was estimated at 2.056 million, up from 1.97 million the previous week.
The Canadian Bison Association said tight supply pushed up the top end of the range. Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range were $2.50-$2.90 per pound hot hanging weight.
Grade A heifers in the desirable weight range were steady at $2.50-$2.70.
Older than 30 month animals and those outside the desirable weight range may be discounted. Slaughter cows and bulls were $2-$2.20.
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported 1,529 sheep and 224 goats traded Aug 9.
Overall, the market remained strong but large volume pressured lambs down by $10-$20 per cwt. Mutton sheep rose $10. Good kid goats rose $20.
Lambs lighter than 70 lb. were $135-$161 per cwt. Lambs 70 to 85 lb. were $130-$159, 86 to 105 lb. were $128-$150, and those heavier than 105 lb. were $123-$142.
Rams were $50-$80 per cwt. Cull ewes were $41-$68. Open breeding ewes were $80-$139.
Good kid goats heavier than 50 lb. were $190-$235 per cwt. Nannies were $40-$95 per cwt. Mature billies were $101-$142.50.
At the Aug. 10 sale at Olds Auction at Olds, Alta., feeder lambs were $85-$160 per head. Ewes were $90-$120. Nannies were $75-$130 and billies were $85-$160.
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,734 sheep and lambs and 133 goats traded Aug. 9. Sheep and goats were steady.
Well finished light lambs were steady while other types were $5-$10 lower.
