Weather systems tracking through the Prairies have also rained on the U.S. Midwest, but in smaller quantities.Most farmers there are upbeat about crop potential, given the early seeding dates and good moisture, but it is getting too wet in some places, which supported corn and soybean prices late week. Also, it was getting a little too dry in the southern corn belt.The U.S. Department of Agriculture knocked corn and soybean’s good-to-excellent ratings down a few points June 21, but they are still better than last year.Warm, drier weather was forecast for the rest of this week.Despite wheat rust in the Middle East and parts of the United States this year, the market believes there will be lots of wheat.Harvest has begun in Kansas, the largest U.S. winter wheat producer. Early reports show better than expected yields.Far less attention is paid to Kazakhstan. Last year it grew 17 million tonnes of wheat and exported 7.5 million tones and was expected to produce and export about the same this year. However, that seems unlikely because of drought .
