For the visitors who lined up to watch the total mixed ration feed mixer demonstrations at Ag in Motion 2025, the machinery on display was the star attraction.

But a much smaller tool — three boxed stacked on top of each other, to be exact — was also featured at these demonstrations at the farm show near Langham, Sask., and it’s key to knowing if a feed mixer is performing well.

As host of the feed mixer demos, Dwayne Summach, livestock and feed extension specialist with Saskatchewan Agriculture, introduced the audience to the Penn State Particle Size Separator. This handy device can be used to easily evaluate samples from your feed mixer to check its efficiency.
