U.S. beef association leader dies

George Swan, past president of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association in the United States, died at his home on March 22 after a brief illness. He was 50 years old.

Swan was president of the Swan Land and Livestock Co., a family business that included a cow-calf and registered Quarterhorse operation based at Rogerson, Idaho. He initiated major recommendations to streamline the NCBA that were adopted this year.

He was elected to the Idaho state legislature in November 2000 and was active in various agricultural ventures in his community. He is survived by his wife Becky and four children.
