Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts on Aug. 26 was $82.44. It was $83.47 Aug. 19.

U.S. hogs averaged $108.40 on a carcass basis Aug. 26, down from $109.66 Aug. 19.

Canadian Cattle Association hopeful of agreement with Alberta group

The Canadian Cattle Association is optimistic the two parties will work through the issues ABP identified and resolve them before the July 1, 2026, withdrawal date.

The U.S. pork cutout was $113.05 per hundredweight Aug. 26, up from $112.41 Aug. 19.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Aug. 26 was 0.935 million. It was 0.958 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 0.953 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Aug. 23 Signature Four price was $259.97 per 100 kilograms, up from $258.41.

The Aug. 23 Hams Marketing cash price was $257.97, while on Aug. 16 it was $259.98. HyLife was $274.71 this week and $278.24 Aug. 16. OlyWest was $271.50, down from $272.30 last week.

OlyWest 2021 was down, at $276.80, from $277.20, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $274.71 this week. On Aug. 16 it was $278.24.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices of $645-$700 per cwt., hot hanging weight, for finished bulls and $620-$665 per cwt. for finished heifers. Mature bulls and cows were $500-$550 per cwt.

Carcass prices for bison sold into the United States were US$495-$510 per cwt. for bulls and $455-$480 per cwt. for heifers.

Prices for mature bulls and cows were not available.

All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were C$5.02 per pound for bulls and $3.88 per lb. for heifers of good quality or better.

The mixed live animal price was $4.25.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 411 sheep and 797 lambs sold Aug. 25.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,648 sheep and 499 goats sold Aug. 18.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $320-$425 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $300-$341, 70-85 lb. were $280-$323, 86-105 lb. were $260-$310, and 106 lb. and heavier were $250-$310. Wool rams were $170-$265 per cwt. Cull ewes were $180-$275.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $280-$370, 55-69 lb. were $290-$330, 70-85 lb. were $280-$318, 86-105 lb. were $270-$300 and 106 lb. and heavier were $260-$295. Hair rams were $200-$260 per cwt. Cull ewes were $190-$290.
