Dakota Townsend has been a scene-stealer since she was a toddler leading her parents’ llamas across a stage as an auctioneer encouraged the crowd to offer five figure bids.
Now she is striking out on her own with Rock Star Cattle Co., where she is building a herd of Simmentals that reside with her family’s large herd of purebred Angus at Sylvan Lake, Alta.
“Simmental is something different and something I know about.”
Her purebred Simmental female was named supreme champion overall at the Calgary Stampede’s Summer Synergy event at Olds, Alta., which earned her cash prizes and $2,000 in scholarship money.

She bought the red female as a young heifer in December 2013 from Rancier Farms at Killam, Alta., and has been on the show circuit ever since, racking up a shelf of prizes.
She also won the jackpot heifer competition at Summer Synergy, and her show steer won its weight class July 12 during the Stampede’s junior steer show.
“He was a steer that told us he wanted to be a show steer,” she said.
Townsend is working with her parents and brother Wacey and is always looking to buy high quality cattle
