Couples from opposite ends of the country were selected as Canada’s

outstanding young farmers at the recent Toronto Royal Winter Fair.

Jocelyn St. Laurent and Manon Jolin of Quebec run a 2,400 head swine

operation that achieved Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points in

2000. They annually produce about 60,000 piglets which are finished on

their farm and by custom operators.

Glenn and Laurie Bowman of Winfield, B.C., run a year round greenhouse

operation producing 2.5 million perennial plants for customers

throughout North America.

They produce about 1,300 different plant varieties in a computer

controlled environment. They are also involved in a local salmon

hatchery and pheasant release program.

Next year’s national outstanding young farmers’ event takes place in

B.C.
