Fed cattle prices took another hit this week. On the average, sales were $2.50-$4 lower compared to last week’s average.
Thursday’s trade in Western Canada saw steers bring $92 – $93.55 and heifers $88.75 – $91.
Cow trade was basically steady, quality and condition considered. Top quality grain-fed cows of any number are tough to come by these days.
Lack of supply seems to be the only thing holding cow prices together right now.
On the negative side is lower U.S. cow beef, lower fed cattle, low price chuck meat and a widening choice/select spread.
These factors may put pressure on cows in the weeks to come. The outlook is for $1 lower.
