Reading Time: < 1 minute

Published: January 16, 1997

A bakery employing 100 workers that aims to serve fresh bagels, buns and breads to restaurants and food service companies is expected to be running in Calgary by this summer.

Operated by Corporate Foods, the bakery is 69 percent owned by Maple Leaf Foods.

Company chair Archie McLean said the bakery will produce a variety of breads. One new item is par-baked bread, a French-style crusty loaf that’s about 80 percent cooked. It can go from freezer to table in 14 minutes. It is popular with restaurants who need fresh bread quickly.

The bakery will be located in southeast Calgary.
