HOGS

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $64.15 July 26. It was 65.30 July 19.

U.S. cattle producers fear return of screwworm

Parasitic screwworm flies are pushing northward from Central America again after being officially eradicated from the United States in 1966, threatening $1.8 billion in damage to Texas’ economy alone.

U.S. hogs averaged $82.13 on a carcass basis July 26, down from $82.42 July 19.

The U.S. pork cutout was $105.17per hundredweight July 26, down from $102.16 July 19.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to July 26 was 2.326 million. It was 2.329 million the previous week. Slaughter was 2.315 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the July 27 Signature Four price was $222.63 per 100 kilograms, up from $216.80.

The July 27 Hams Marketing cash price was $220.63, while on July 20 it was $214.80. HyLife was $237.57 this week. It wasn’t available last week. OlyWest was $219.80, up from $216.40 last week.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $233.90, from $226.50, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $244.82 this week. On July 20 it was not available.

BISON

The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices of $515-$550 per hundredweight, hot hanging weight, for finished bulls and $500-$525 cwt. for finished heifers. Prices for mature bulls and cows were not available.

Carcass prices for bison sold into the United States were US$420-$445 per cwt. for bulls and $410-$420 per cwt. for heifers. Mature bulls were $330-$350 per cwt., while mature cows were $300-$330 per cwt. All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were not available this week.

LAMBS

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 224 sheep and 718 lambs sold July 22.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,736 sheep and 195 goats sold July 22

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $300-$373 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $290-$355, 70-85 lb. were $270-$296, 86-105 lb. were $260-$292, and 106 lb. and heavier were $260-$285. Wool rams were $150-$185 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$205.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $260-$335, 55-69 lb. were $260-$305, 70-85 lb. were $260-$290, 86-105 lb. were $250-$280 and 106 lb. and heavier were $250-$270. Hair rams were $120-$205 per cwt. Cull ewes were $110-$210.
