Livestock handling course geared to Alberta 4-Hers

Ten livestock handling workshops for Alberta 4-H members are being offered this fall.

This five-hour course covers general animal behaviour and how to handle cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, bison, elk, poultry and llamas.

Participants will also learn about recognizing illness, injury and distress in livestock, how to treat sick or injured animals, disease and human health hazards and safety for livestock facilities, equipment and farmyards.

This course is a modification of the safe livestock handling course for adults. The students will receive a manual and a certificate for attending this course.

A grant from the Wild Rose Agricultural Producers and Alberta Farm Animal Care covers costs.

Duckworth had graduated from Lethbridge College’s journalism program in 1974, later earning a degree in communications from the University of Calgary. Duckworth won many awards from the Canadian Farm Writers Association, American Agricultural Editors Association, the North American Agricultural Journalists and the International Agriculture Journalists Association.
