Livestock centre gets new leaders

The Livestock Gentec Alberta centre is expanding.

The centre is part of the University of Alberta and works on swine and bovine genetics to improve animal performance.

Graham Plastow has been appointed interim chief executive officer to replace former head Steve Moore, who is moving to the University of Queensland, Australia as the new director of the Centre for Animal Science.

In addition, scientists John Basarab and Leluo Guan have joined the organization based at the University of Alberta. Basarab is known for his work in cattle feed efficiency and Guan studies animal production and health. Southern Alberta rancher Tom Lynch-Staunton has been appointed as a beef industry liaison.

A permanent CEO will be appointed in the fall, said a news release from the University of Alberta.
